DIGITAL SMILE DESIGNING

A revolution in creating beautiful smiles

What Is Digital Smile Designing?

  • Digital Smile Design is a revolutionary technique in the field of dentistry where dental treatment planning can be done using 3D scanning.
  • Digital Smile Design empowers you to understand the treatment’s outcome and helps you visualize it beforehand by creating a 3D simulation and by presenting a digital mockup of your new smile design before the treatment (clinically) starts.

How Does Digital Smile Design Work?

  • At Focus Dental Care, we use the CEREC, CAD-CAM system for Digital Smile Design.
  • CEREC uses CAD/CAM (computer-aided design/computer-aided manufacturing) technology to take a digital impression of your mouth and generate a precisely fitted prosthesis.
  • Using CEREC, CAD-CAM, we can mill the following in a “single sitting” :
  1. Dental crowns/caps
  2. Dental Bridges
  3. Laminates
  4. Veneers
  5. Lumineers
  6. Inlays and Onlays

PROCEDURE:

  1. Firstly our dentist will use an Intraoral camera to scan your teeth.
  2. Once the scanning is done, the 3D images of your teeth will be generated.
  3. Our cosmetic dentist will design your smile in front of you where necessary changes like manipulating teeth shape, position, dimensions, shade selection, creating a new tooth in case of a missing tooth, etc., can be simulated.
  4. Once the design is done, the process of Milling and polishing will be started. Our CEREC CAD-CAM system takes 14 minutes for milling one unit and 12 minutes for polishing.
  5. After Milling and polishing are done, the prepared crowns will be permanently cemented onto your teeth.
  6. The entire process takes about one hour, where your chairside time is 30 minutes only.

What Are the Indications of Digital Smile Design?

You are a candidate for digital smile design if you have any of the following:

  • Midline diastema– Space present between two front teeth in the midline is called Midline Diastema; this can be corrected with dental crowns in a single visit.
  • Malaligned teeth- Crooked teeth or malaligned teeth within the smile-line take a long time to get corrected with braces; with DSD, malalignment can be corrected in a single visit.
  • Chipped teeth- Teeth chipped due to trauma or fall can be treated with Dental Veneers, Laminates, or crowns in a single sitting.
  • Discolored teeth- Stained teeth due to fluorosis, carbonated drinks, etc., can be treated with Dental Veneers or Laminates in a single visit.
  • Gummy smile- The contour of the smile can be designed using DSD.
  • Missing teeth- Missing teeth within the smile line can be replaced in a single visit.
  • Attrited teeth- Loss or wear of tooth structure called attrition can be treated with dental crowns in a single visit.
  • Craze lines on teeth- These lines look like cracks on teeth caused either due to heavy biting forces or aging. Craze lines can be treated with Dental Veneers in a Single visit.

What Are the Advantages of Digital Smile Design?

  • Time saver-Digital smile design helps one save time because the time for scanning, Milling, polishing, fixation of each crown takes hardly an hour! Where traditional lab crowns fabrication requires one week time with three dental visits.
  • Avoid discomfort- Digital smile design uses the 3D scanning technique instead of making an impression with trays, thereby avoiding discomfort caused by impression material.
  • Precision- The crowns prepared using a Digital Smile Design is prepared by our cosmetic dentist himself with utmost care and attention to every detail; therefore will be more precise than lab crowns.
  • Above all, you can experience that decisive moment where you can know how your smile is going to be transformed beforehand.
